HistoryAlbemarle Rowing started as an Albemarle High School club in the spring of 2012 with Matt Korbon and Nicole Ward under the guidance of Coach Cathy Coffman. In the spring of 2013, the team grew to six rowers and the boys’ quad were VA state champions. During the 2012 and 2013 seasons, Albemarle Rowing practiced out of the Beaver Creek Boathouse in Crozet alongside the Western Albemarle High School Crew.
In the spring of 2014, the team moved their operations to the Virginia Rowing Association's boathouse under the auspice of Rivanna Rowing Club. Also in 2014, the team grew to 11 members, was a repeat VA state champion with the boys' quad, and placed third at the Scholastic National Regatta with the girls’ junior double. In the spring of 2015, the team grew to 20 members (including 15 novice rowers) and four coaches. In 2015 three boats had top finishes at the VA State Regatta, the Scholastic National Regatta, and the Stotesbury Regatta. 2016 was a banner season for Albemarle Rowing by winning four state championships and making to the finals in the five events entered at the Stotesbury Cup Regatta. With dedication and commitment throughout the years the team has continued to distinguish itself at the state and national levels. |
