Albemarle High School Crew started as a club team in the spring of 2012 with two team members; Matt Korbon and Nicole Ward. The team has grown significantly since then.
Spring 2013-- team grew to six rowers; Gabe Giacalone, Matt Dean, Gaelen Rickard, Matt Korbon, Hannah MacKnight and Kat Seitz. The boys’ quad made up of the four boys were VA State Champions. During these first two seasons, AHS practiced out of the Beaver Creek Boathouse in Crozet along-side Western Albemarle’s Crew team.
Spring 2014-- team moved their operations to the Virginia Rowing Association’s boathouse under the auspice of Rivanna Rowing Club.
Spring 2015 -- team grew to 20 members (including 15 novice rowers) and 4 coaches.
Spring 2017-- with a team of 20 total rowers, the top boats were-
Spring 2018-- we had three boats that were VA State Champs:
Spring 2019– this was our best season yet. We had four VA State Champion boats:
At the Scholastic National Regatta, AHS qualified five boats and all five boats were podium finishers. The Girls 2x won gold, the Girls LWT 2x won silver, and bronze medals were won by the Boys LWT 2x, Boys Jr 2x, and Girls Jr Quad.
Currently-- Albemarle has several of its’ alumni rowing in college, with Emmy on scholarship at D1 Louisville and Bri on scholarship at D1 Ohio State. Rowing as Rivanna Rowing Club, many of our rowers have competed at local races this fall.

- Girls’ junior double -Lydia Eisenberg and Claiborne Earles won Third at the Scholastic National Regatta

- Girls’ double -Lydia Eisenberg and Claiborne Earles won VA State Champions, Third at the prestigious Stotesbury regatta and Fifth at the Scholastic National Regatta.
- Single sculler -David Braatz was Second at VA States and a top twelve finisher at Scholastic Nationals.
- Lightweight Boys Double - Liam (aka “Hugh”) Rickard and Jake Pierce were Second at VA States.
- Boys Double -David Braatz and Hayden Davis
- Boys Lightweight Double -Hugh Rickard & Jake Pierce
- Boys Quad -Graham Haynie, Clark Benham, John Wray, and Will Banner
- Girls Lightweight Double -Rachel Lloyd & Erin O’Hara.
Spring 2017-- with a team of 20 total rowers, the top boats were-
- Girls Double- Emmy Wuensch and Eliza MacKnight were VA State Champion and Second at the Scholastic National regatta
- Boys’ Lightweight Double Hugh and Jake were VA State Champion and Second at the Stotesbury regatta

- Girls Double -Emmy and Bri Knight
- Girls Lightweight Double (LWT 2x) -Olivia Hall and Dhara Liyanage
- Girls’ Junior Quad -Rebecca Hasson, Ryleigh Katstra, Mia Liang, and Hillary Lewis
Spring 2019– this was our best season yet. We had four VA State Champion boats:
- Girls Double -Ryleigh and Bri
- Girls LWT 2x - Olivia and Dhara
- Girls Jr. Quad - Mia, Charlotte Kaczka, Katya Benham, and Rebecca
- Boys Jr. Double - Zack Arzouni and Charlie Butler.
